[Shows & Movies] The Prisoner

current mood: amused

Would like to point out to anyone that's interested that right now you can watch the entire original series of The Prisoner over on AMCTV.com.

Quick warning: You might run into issues with the flash player. I know it refuses to play smoothly on my computer, but if you have a better connection or a better computer it should play fine.

Keep an eye out

current mood: excited

Well, as far as I can find there's no set date for the US release of this movie, but I thought I'd make mention of the swiss film CARGO, which is supposed to be released in Europe soon, and hopefully afterwards over here.

Keep an eye out for this film! If/When there is a US theater release date, I'd like to have the RSA go together to see it, if anyone's interested.

LAST CHANCE to sign up to watch filming of TBBT
by . (urchinmoppet)
at September 28th, 2009 (04:17 pm)

current mood: excited

Hey everyone!

So I've just heard back from Audiences Unlimited, and we've got an attendance date finalized. Our group will be going to watch them film The Big Bang Theory on November 24th, 2009.

We have THIRTEEN people on the list, and AU has told me there's an upward limit of 15 for this filming because the show is so popular.

We have room for TWO MORE to join us for the trip. I know we've had new members join since my last announcement about this, so here's your chance: If you want to go with us to watch a filming of The Big Bang Theory, please SEND ME AN EMAIL.

The seats are first come first served, so don't wait to email me if you know you want to go, do it now! :D I am submitting the name list tomorrow at noon. All names will need to be submitted by then, no excuses.

The filming is in Burbank, CA, and I am looking into renting a van for those who would like to carpool to the shoot. You can also arrange carpooling among yourselves if you would like, but please send me a note if you are interested in joining in on renting a van for the trip when you reply.

Hope to hear from you soon!

!IMPORTANT! RE: Attending a filming of The Big Bang Theory
by . (urchinmoppet)
at September 21st, 2009 (05:44 pm)

current mood: anxious

OK, I just got off the phone with one of the people from Audiences Unlimited, and The Big Bang Theory is booked solid for the next three filming's, which works PERFECTLY for us. These are the following dates we have to choose from:

These are all Tuesdays, btw.

What I need from you guys right now is NOT a yes or no. What I need is simply a YOUR REAL NAME, and the date you would prefer. I just got off the phone with Keri, who works with Audiences Unlimited, the company that handles the tickets to TBBT and a few other shows. In order to get priority tickets way ahead of time like I'm trying to do (so that we don't get turned back at the door if the audience is too full, i.e. to have them hold a spot, which they only do for large groups) I need to give her a list of name of attendees and an approximate date that we'd like reserved.

You do not have to say that you are going for sure! I just need your full real name (the one on your CA ID) and an preferred date from the above three dates. It will not be used for anything untoward or criminal, so please do not worry about disclosing it to me.

Please send your name and the date you'd prefer to my email at earthbound.angels@gmail.com.

I know some people may think that this means that if they say they'd like to go on a certain date then I'll hold them to it ala nazi style, but I won't. However, each ticket would be held under the individuals name, and without 10 names at the minimum I cannot get us group priority. If you have any friends you know would want to attend this with us, please ask them for permission to put them on the list and forward their name and date to me. (While you're at it, please invite them to come to one of our meets :) )

Filming begins at 6:30PM, we would need to be at the studio and in line by 6PM at the LATEST (I would like to get there early to avoid any hitches), so please think about taking most of the afternoon (12PM or 1PM and onwards) off to attend, since the drive to Burbank and finding the studio will take some time.

Once the date is finalized I will let you all know. I am going to try and get this all together as quickly as possible so that people who want to attend can make time in their calendar and with work and the like to come.

I think this would be a lot of fun for us, guys, so I hope you will try to pick a date in which you can attend. We can talk about carpooling and transportation once we have a more solid event set.

Meetup.com page now up!
by . (urchinmoppet)
at September 18th, 2009 (09:24 pm)

current mood: excited

Hey everyone,

The group now has an official Meetup.com page. Please make the $45 dollars I spent on the subscription worth it help support the group by going to meetup and joining us. If you don't have a meetup.com account, don't worry, it's FREE for people to just join as normal members, so please set one up and show us your love!

Hope to see you all on there soon. And please, help us SPREAD THE WORD by emailing, twittering, journaling, or just plain old word-o-mouthing it to your friends and whoever you know would be interested.

Discussion Post: POSSIBLE group trip!
by . (urchinmoppet)
at September 16th, 2009 (01:43 am)

current mood: hopeful

Ok, this is a discussion post about a possible group trip for us all, as small as 'us all' is.

One of the main advantages we have going for us in SoCal is that we live near the television and movie capital of the world. While sadly we can't go and watch an episode of Doctor Who or Firefly being filmed, and typically movie sets are closed, we CAN go and watch some television shows being filmed.

What I'd really like to do is get a group together that is willing to do a trip out to Burbank to watch an episode of THE BIG BANG THEORY being filmed. The tickets are FREE, the actors & show is hilarious, and the jokes/references are relevant to our scifi interests. If you haven't seen The Big Bang Theory, I really highly suggest it (and might even show an episode or two at our next screening if you all don't mind). It's not a scifi series per se, but its in that small little subgenre of poking affectionate familiar fun at scifi and comic fans (and scientists! ♥ ).

The filming dates coming up this year are:

10/20/09 ★ 10/27/09 ★ 11/10/09 ★ 11/17/09 ★ 11/24/09 ★ 12/8/09

We can order free tickets through Audiences Unlimited within 30 days of the filming date (so, like, we couldn't preorder for the December filming until 30 days before hand). The studio is located at

and from what I've heard on some forums from people who've attended, the filming is fantastic but it starts late, so we'd probably need to stay at a hotel that night (maybe share a room(s) depending on how large a group we can get) and carpool there & back. (Hotel stay is NOT MANDATORY, though it does make things easier for driving, since Burbank is about 70 miles away. However, if we have a carpool with a driver willing to drive back at night, then that is a completely valid option too!)

Please let me know if you guys are interested in doing this. I plan on finding a way to do it myself no matter what, but I feel like this would really be fun for a group like ours. I might even order the first seasons first disc from Netflix so I can show you guys the first couple episodes at our next meet if you don't mind, just so you can see what I'm all geeky over if you don't know it yet.

current mood: geeky
current song: Van She- Strangers

Alright everyone, we've seemed to come to a general consensus about the meet time/date/place, so here are the details:

Date: Sunday, September 27th
Time: 3PM
Place: the_enemy713's place. Please send me an email at apothecarytea@gmail.com asking for the address, or send a message to either myself or the_enemy713.

We will be screening some Blake 7's and Life on Mars. If you feel like bringing refreshments & snacks (and things to eat/drink them with to save Michael on the washing up) please do so! ♥ Bringing anything else of interest (including friends) is also welcome!

Any questions or comments, please ask in the comments below.

September Meet Discussion Post
by . (urchinmoppet)
at August 31st, 2009 (11:15 pm)

current mood: mellow

Hey guys!

Alright, new month, new discussion post. What day would everyone like to have the this month?

I can say right now that the 4th & 5th are definitely not days I can do, and it's quite likely that I'll be out of town on the 11th through 13th. Any weekend after that I will make way for, so whatever your preferences are, please let me know!

We're currently trying to find a screening place. Michael (the_enemy713 ), is your offer for screening at your place still standing? If not, we can do another coffee depot meet for now, at least until I can get a larger tv and some spare seating (my place literally has two chairs and a couch). Which would probably take a good long while... :(

A quick heads up: I WILL be setting up a meetup.com account for us sometime this month (as soon as I get my financial aid) so we can get a formal calender set up(and hopefully attract some more members). However this will still remain active, and the first place I post anything (since I'm such a huge LJ addict).

Anyway, discuss!

August Meet: Sunday August 23rd
by . (urchinmoppet)
at August 7th, 2009 (10:47 pm)

current mood: cranky

Hello everyone,

Since there's been little to no discussion on when and where the meet should be held, I'm making an 'executive decision', as they say.

Discussion/Greet Meet
Sunday August 23rd
Downtown Coffee Depot
2PM to 4PM
(Leaving after 4PM is obviously not mandatory)
Look for this person

I did, in fact, want to do a screening meet, especially since I just received my region free DVD player and my Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes DVD's are on their way, but it looks like that's out of the question right now. So bring a bit of money for something to eat & drink, and things you'd like to talk about, be it books, crafts, movies, TV shows or whathaveyou.

RSVPing would be really welcome just so I can know I won't be sitting there alone like some loser, and bringing your friends is more than welcome. You DO NOT have to stay for the full two hours, so if you just want to pop in to say hi, show your support and maybe speak about future meets for a minute before leaving, then please do so.

Hope to see you all there!

Although there’s still a month before it hits theaters, Buzznet has unveiled a new exclusive image from the highly anticipated animated film 9. The close-ups of mastermind Tim Burton's darkly beautiful creatures fighting for civilization in a mechanized future don't disappoint.

August Meet Discussion Post
by . (urchinmoppet)
at July 24th, 2009 (04:35 pm)

current mood: nerdy

Hello everybody!

Because July has been so busy for everyone, with the holiday and two major conventions in the southern California area, as well as busy work and school schedules, sadly it's not really possible for us to have any real meets this month. So, let's talk about August! When would be the best time for a meet for the majority, where, and at what time of day. If anyone can volunteer their house for a screening, that would be great, but in case we can't get one, please feel free to suggest cafes or other public places where you feel a good meet could be held. This post will be updated with the main points of conversation RE: meetings as they come, so for any new comers it will be quite easy to keep track of the conversation and put in your two cents.

RE: Screenings: I shall be receiving my copy of the US release of the UK original Life on Mars sometime in the first week of August, so unless anyone has something they'd rather screen for the meet, I offer up Life on Mars for the first meetings screenings (if we can get a place to screen).

Anonymous posting IS accepted, so you do NOT have to sign up for a Livejournal account in order to participate in discussion if you do not want to. Please remember to add your name at the end of your post if you don't, however, so that we can keep a general idea of who's who.

Also, any veteran Livejournal users in the group who would like to assist as Moderators for both the LJ & the twitter, please send me a direct message via LJ with your real name, how you found the group, and your favorite scifi show (just to verify you're not a troll seeking Ultimate Power).

EDIT: Due to a lack of discussion, I'm proposing 2 dates to choose from. These are

Saturday August 15th
Sunday August 23rd

Please state which date you would prefer. The one chosen by the majority will be the date for our first meet. Unless someone offers their home for a screening, the meet will take place at a cafe or restaurant to be chosen later.

Not to be a dictator, but I feel that at the moment nothing will get done unless some firm steps are taken. I understand its the weekend of Comic-con, so a lot of people are busy. Please just respond when you have the time.
